Close to Dartmoor and perfect for leisurely walks, it is a bird watcher's paradise. New Thatch In the early spring of 2008 Higher Thornwood was Re-Thatched by a local Thatcher; Alan Brimacombe of Spreyton. He and his men did an excellent job although the work ran over a little it was well worth the wait. The material used is locally grown combed wheat straw, and renewed to the regional style with a smooth not cut ridge. It is hoped the new thatch will last approx 15-20 years.
